Five million dollar prize pool for the League of Legends tournament winners is the largest prize pool in eSports history, Riot Games representative Chris Heintz said.
Boasting about the game’s large viewers’ base, Heintz said, “We regularly see two million-plus viewers, and tens of thousands of live-event viewers. That’s why we have a five million dollar prize pool. It’s the largest prize pool in eSports history.”
League of Legends has been split into competitive seasons, where teams of gamers partake in multi-tier challenges against other teams until one team eventually ascends to the top. At this time the developers introduce new content.
Last year, Riot Games rolled out a total of thirty-one new champions during its Season One event. Extra modes were introduced, along with a considerable facelift of the front-end interface.
In the Season Two, the developers have so far introduced a Spectator Mode, alongside weekly live-streams of tournaments and the Dominion game mode.
Riot Game’s huge $5 million prize pool is distributed across the season.
